So, all of a sudden, we have a new national leader and in a groundbreaking first for Australia, it is a female Prime Minister.
I wasn't the hugest fan of Rudd, he struck me as arrogant, petty and vindictive, and I have nothing against Gillard, but I have to say that I am not a fan of the process. Kevin Rudd for better or worse was elected by the Australian people to lead the country.
I think its a fucked system that allows 50 or so people in the labour party to make a majority vote and remove the man elected by millions and replace him with someone they prefer, or who they think will help them win the next election.
I can understand in a scenario where the PM had been corrupt, criminal or had lost all faith of his party, but even in that case, I would prefer a 'caretaker' PM and an immediate election announced so that the people of Australia can choose their leader.
Having said all that, under the system we have now, Gillard is our leader, I wish her luck and hope she can do a better job than her predecessor.
